More About Richmond

Richmond is a quaint and vibrant little town, conveniently located just 25min from Hobart and a short drive from the Hobart Airport. Described as being one of Hobart’s most popular tourist destinations, and with links to the East Coast, the Tasmanian Midlands and Hobart Peninsular, Richmond offers the perfect base for exploring the States Southeast region.

A leisurely walk through Richmond will reveal some of Tasmania’s most exquisite and unspoiled historical buildings dating back to the early 1820’s, most of which are still in use today.

Richmond Bridge is noted as being one of the Town’s most popular historic attractions. Built by convicts in the 1820s, it is the oldest bridge in Australia. Not far from the grassy banks surrounding Richmond Bridge is Australia’s oldest intact Goal. An attraction definitely worth a look. Keeping in tradition with its Historical counterparts St John’s Catholic Church, built in 1836, is considered the oldest Roman Catholic Church in Australia. With records such as these it’s easy to see why Richmond is one of Tasmania’s most prominent historic towns.
